Teenager Zoey Redbird is "Marked" by a tracker (?). Happy to get away from her mean stepfather and unconcerned mother, Zoey heads to the House of Night where she will learn/transform into a vampyre. There she is greeted by a friendly teacher Neferet, other friendly mates, and the mean Aphrodite.
I think that the book started slow and ended slow. I had to force myself to finish the book. I enjoyed the introduction to the classroom and professors descriptions. I thought they made for a great visual. I really loved the description of Neferet :)
I have all of the books available to me as my fiancee loved the series. I may try to pick up and try the next one (he said the first book is really slow, but the others are faster paced/better), but not likely anytime soon...Maybe over the summer.
